I read In all the SILENT MANLINESS in essentially two sittings and finished it in the wee hours of the morning. I found it to be a page turner (I guess I just said that). It was action packed, with significant character development, felt real, poignant, and touched a broad sample of gay life. Parents of gay youth and young adults could certainly learn from it. But this book should not be relegated to the archives of gay literature and would appeal to a wide audience. I really liked it and admire the fine workmanship of the writing. Kudos to Lou Kief for a fine piece of work. I could also not help but wonder what parts of it might be autobiographical in some form. I suppose that much writing is informed that way. I give it a high recommendation.Product details

With so many dead bodies, this could have been depressing. It
wasn't! Touching and funny at the same time, In All the Silent
Manliness by Lou Kief is a good story, beautifully told.
Just really enjoyed this book and it's perspective of those days in San Francisco. Funny, also, the images in the "funeral home" came alive and caused many laughs. Many friends and in particular, my son, did not survive those times. Great that it is released just when the "gay museum" is going to happen in San Francisco.
This was a great read! There were some very moving moments of sadness, grief, amazement and humor. I ended reading the book with a kleenex in hand and a smile on my face. Read it and enjoy the journey.
"In all the Silent Manliness" I found myself so involved in the family funeral home and their sadness & joys! Great characters kept popping up that made it so interesting...and the funeral home family was so touching and somewhat "upstairs downstairs" feelilng. Love it, and thanks for writing it Lou Kief....keep writing!
Lou Kief tells a humorous and touching story of a family in the funeral home business at a time of family crisis. His gentle and loving characterization of the people in his story makes you love them while you laugh at their quirkiness and cry with them in their sorrow. Few books touch the heart as this one does. I highly recommend it -- it is a wonderful read.
Lou Kief manages to tell a universal story of a gay man's search for identity, acceptance, and love . Though sometimes funny and sometimes sad there is something about it we can all relate to. As a big fan of the series SixFeet Under this book fills the void left when the series ended. The story makes you want to know, what happens next? Looking forward to the sequel. Good read. Rick
