It started with a chance meeting on the beach and an offer to help. Two days later, the girl Sam Decker had met was dead, murdered and left on the beach. Decker wants to know why. As he begins to investigate the dead girl’s past, it becomes apparent that her murder wasn’t a chance thing, but that she was targeted.
Anya Petroff had come to Scorpion Cay through a modern day ‘Underground railroad’ that is used to move battered women to a new location where they can make fresh starts without fear of discovery by their former abusers. Decker follows the trail to Washington, D.C. where he enlists the help of Homeland Security agent Jack Riley to help discover why Anya Petroff had to suffer a cold and lonely death.

A COLD AND LONELY DEATH, by Bill Craig (reviewed by robert j. ray)If you're worried about being invaded by the Russian Mafia, you can now rest easy because Sam Decker P.I. is on a Revenge Quest to get even for the mindless killing of a sweet-seeming, very frightened girl named Anya.
In this latest Sam Decker adventure, author Bill Craig guides his reader through twists and turns, bodies on the beach, expert shifts in the POV (screenwriter jargon for Point-of- View), including girls imported from Russia and a shrewd nun name Sister Agnes.
On the case, Decker discovers that Anya had scars from being beaten. Whoever did this is gonna pay. And Decker is the guy who collects, an Avenging Angel who knows fear, and how to overcome it.
A writer lives on words. A novelist's job is turning those words into word-pictures, to satisfy the audience, whose brains are attuned to films and TV. So here's where Author Craig shines, first in his description of Place: "New Day Shelter was located in a Victorian styled mansion that at a glance Decker figured would have about 30 or so rooms in it. It was clean, surrounded by wrought iron fencing with spikes lining the top. Decker was willing to bet that those spikes had been honed to a razor-edge...."
And when it comes to describing his characters, Craig's eye gets a bit sharper:
"Sharon Pitt was not what he had expected, though he had to admit his perception had been clouded by Gertie Jean. Instead, Sharon Pitt was a much younger woman, lean and svelte by any standards. Her dark brown hair curled around her face, making it appear slightly thinner than it actually was, and helped emphasize her hazel eyes. She was dressed in a smart gray business suit which included a knee-length gray skirt over...."
Well, you get the picture.
A COLD AND LONELY DEATH is packed with action and Decker is a hard guy with a heart. Kudos to Craig.

Where was the FBI when 25 people died in fire. Was this supposed to be satire or comedy..... At least it was free. I cant write worth a flip but I sure wish I could good luck in the future but make your stories more real.
Really enjoyed the book.
Many spelling and grammar errors which are distracting. However, a good plot.
I like all of Bill Craig's "Decker P.I. and Marrlow" books. I can't wait till the new ones come out. These are enjoyable reads.

Another.Bill Craig book that cannot be put down causing other chores to be put aside. Sam Decker has once again hijacked one,s attention to the end of the last chapter
